E-Course

I’m going to make a bold assumption about you and say that you are here because you want to learn how to best use Excel, and that you want the whole process to be over as quick as possible so you can just get on and do stuff? If that isn’t exactly right, I would say you can easily relate to that point of view.

This course compliments the book I wrote a while back. The ethos is the same. It is practical, it shows not just the what to do but also the why you would even want to in the first place. I use real world examples throughout. Many of the lessons are inspired by colleagues who have asked me  “Can you show me how to …”.  The course is delivered using both videos and PDF notes that you download to refer to at any time.

Many websites that offer courses make you jump through hoops and expect you to read through pages and pages of gumpf  before you find how much you might have to invest. I hate that. This course costs £149.95. That will be for all the PDF training notes, the MP4 videos and 100 days of email support.  If you just want to go to the order link, please click here. After your payment is processed, you will be taken to a page where you can down load the course materials. You will also see my 100 day no questions asked 100% guarantee. Please note – this is a new course in my portfolio. I am offering the first 100 customers a £50 discount so the course today is even better value at £99.95.

However if you want more convincing why this course represents  great value for you then please read on

There are lots of different ways to learn how to use Excel. You can attend a course where you can interact with a tutor and attendees. This is great if you have the time and money. These types of courses certainly have their place, many people feel the classroom is the only place they can learn. I totally understand that. However, having clear text supported by videos that you can watch time after time will give you the best of both worlds. You are able to work at your own pace, rather than at the pace of the slowest member of the course you are on.

A recent search for local courses in my area (West Yorkshire) prices varied from £195 to £386. And they varied in content and delivery. Most were public courses of one or two days. The courses were usually split in to “Beginner”, “Intermediate” and “Advanced”. In theory, you could spend a week and £600 to get to become your own Excel Expert.

I have experience of one of the companies that I included in the price check. The course I attended was not for software but for a project management methodology course that lasted five days. I found it intense, comprehensive and challenging. The quality of the instruction was superb. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending that company and course to anyone. That said, that particular week cost over £1200.

The one thing that I liked most about that course was the ability to ask questions and get straight answers. That is why I provide email support. You can ask me any questions relating to the course and its materials.

There are plenty of online courses. I’ve no experience of the companies I looked at when comparing prices and content so I can’t vouch for them.  They varied in access and cost. The cheapest was £10. One was £29 (discounted from £597!!!!). Others gave you time limited access £29 a month for 12 months. There was no reason given for the discount, although I would be surprised if many were ordered at that price. One thing is for sure, after completing Practical Excel you will be able to write a formula to calculate discounts. Another thing. The materials are yours to keep. That is every PDF and every video. Not for 60 days, not for a year. You can access them any time from any compatible device.

Why you would want me to show you how to use Excel?

You’ll learn the essentials very quickly and get to see how to do the complicated stuff in a clear, concise and repeatable manner. Practical Excel 2010 is an absolute must have for anyone that wants to understand Excel and to produce effective spreadsheets. Inside you will find

  • How Excel works
  • What you need to do to present your data in an easy to understand and meaningful manner
  • How you can use formulas, create charts and use “what If analysis” to interpret your data
  • How to use Excel as a database, and how to get information from the data
  • How to create and run macros to remove the need to do repetitive tasks

Do you find yourself at work wondering if there is an easier way to do things? If you keep lists of data, produce reports or have to work with figures I can bet you will have. When you ask techies how to do something,  do you find that instead of explaining in an easy to understand and repeatable fashion that they solve the problem in a blur of keystrokes leaving you none the wiser? I work in a technical field and it has happened to me lots of times.

I started using Excel when it had to be installed from floppy disks, Windows was in version 3.1 and there wasn’t an Internet to ask for help. I wasn’t an overnight expert. It took me ages of using spreadsheets to do work stuff before I felt confident enough not to have a handy “How To” manual on my desk. I don’t know about you, but I find them very dry reading, and often I was left wondering whenever would I use most of the techniques they described.

Eventually, I became the go-to guy for colleagues using spreadsheets. If I didn’t already know the answer, I would go away and find out. I did my learning the hard way, trying out ideas and finding different ways to tackle problems. The one thing they all had in common was that the problems were real problems using real data. Every time I came up with a way of solving an issue, I’d keep a copy of that spreadsheet and also make some brief notes that I would keep in a hard back book. The result was that I built up a knowledgebase for myself.

The outcome from all these years of experience and problem solving is this e-Course. I’ve put together what I believe to be a comprehensive guide that can take you from beginner to expert in 8 modules. I’ve used real world data from publically available sources. The written materials are extensively illustrated with clear screenshots. The accompanying video clips are centred around showing you exactly what you need to do to achieve results.

Throughout the course, I don’t just show you what to do, but also why you would want to in the first place. Let us look at what you’ll learn

NOTES

1 I recommend that in general you complete a module a day. The first module (“A first look at Excel”) is quite light and if you’ve a fair amount of Excel experience already, it won’t take you very long. You may wish to do Module 2 (“Adding Data”) on the same day.  The final modules are quite short and are laser targeted at very specific topics. You may want to do these on the same day

2 It is often said that only 10% of Excel users employ more than just the very basics. I’ve looked for sources of this quote and I can’t find them. I do stand to be corrected. But it does fit in with my experience.
